Linda Nguyen, a
sophomore at the University of Texas, first heard about Heart House at a
UT Social Work Volunteer Fair. Linda, who is originally from
Houston, started volunteering during high school. Although she has
several years experience working with children, on her first day at Heart
House, Linda was surprised the the kids' "energy and
liveliness." The children immediately responded to Linda's
soft-spoken, loving but firm attitude, and she has earned their
trust. When asked why she volunteers, Linda replied, "I love
kids and their innocence and honesty. This is the age when they are
the most impressionable. you can either do a lot of harm of a lot of
good. I hope to do a lot of good."
After her first
week, a couple of the 4th graders made it very clear to Volunteer
Coordinator Lisa Thompson that Ms. Linda was one of their favorite
volunteers. Linda volunteers with Heart House an average of 5 hours
per week. She is always on time and even comes early to help with
snack and program preparation. Linda began volunteering in early
September and feels that she has already gained a lot of life experience
from working at Heart House. We have definitely benefited from
having Linda as a volunteer. "I can tell that the kids REALLY
like her. She never hesitates to help with ANYTHING!" says
Program Supervisor Kaylee Caggiano. Thank you so much Ms. Linda!
